Living near to powerlines has once again been linked to an increased risk of getting cancer

A new Italian study looking at the health of people living near a 60kV powerline in Rome has found an increase in all cancers amongst people living near the line for more than 30 years. For those with the highest exposure, there was a significant increase in all cancers, primary and secondary cancers and a doubling in those suffering from diseases involving blood circulation.

Once again we are informed that living near powerlines has an adverse affect on the health of those living nearby. We, at EMFields, feel it imperative that the government brings in legislation to prohibit new-build residential developments near powerlines. This should be especially important for social housing; the land near powerlines is often cheap because of visual impact, and people looking for social housing often have limited choice as to accommodation. They also often have families, and children have been shown to be especially vulnerable.
